ATA NAMES KANSAS GOV. GRAVES AS PRESIDENT

The American Trucking Associations has selected Kansas Gov. Bill Graves as its president, effective Jan. 14, 2003.

The Republican governor will complete his second term — term limits restrict him from running for reelection. Graves said he comes from a trucking family.

'Bill Graves is one of us ' he is going to do us proud,' said Duane Acklie, ATA's outgoing chairman at ATA's management conference. Acklie added that Graves 'commands instant respect and clout in Washington and is someone who understands our industry well.'

In the interim, William Canary, will continue to serve as interim president and chief executive officer of ATA. He stepped into that role when Walter McCormick left to become chief of the U.S. Telecom Association.
