Australia’s biggest cattle shipment ever

AustraliaÆs biggest cattle shipment ever

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. says the last animals that comprised the world’s single biggest shipment of export cattle arrived in Indonesia recently.

A record 23,372 head of cattle were delivered by a specialized cattle carrier, the Stella Deneb, besting by about 1,200 the previous record. The cattle were loaded in Townsville and Darwin, Australia, and discharged in the Indonesian ports of Cigading, Jakarta and Panjang.

According to the Australian Web site farmonline, the ship, operated by Siba Ships, was able to carry more cattle both because Cigading has a deeper draft than ports called at in the past and because a different mix of cattle was used.
