AUSTRIAN AIRLINES SIGN UNISYS FOR FREIGHT SYSTEM

   Austrian Airlines has signed a $10 million contract with Unisys for
installation of the Virtual Integrator Suite of air freight management
computer applications.
   Unisys will install the VIS system for Austrian Airlines Group-Cargo,
which was formed in 1997 and includes Lauda Air and Tyrolean Airways. Thoseairlines join Polar Air Cargo, Delta Air Lines and Varig Brazilian Airlines as VIS users.
   Unisys says VIS enables users to track air freight at the individual
shipment level using Internet technology. The system is also compliant with
the requirements of Cargo 2000, the company said.
   Cargo 2000 is currently evaluating the bids of three finalists —
Unisys, Sabre Group and Syntegra — for the development of a ‘common data
management platform,’ which the group hopes will ease the flow of
information and freight between forwarders and airlines.
