Authorities probe fatal crash of 2 CN trains in Mississippi

Local and state authorities are investigating Sunday’s head-on collision of two Canadian National Railroad freight trains northeast of Bentonia, in west-central Mississippi. One crewman died in the accident and three are missing.

A fire at the scene of the collision delayed a search of the wreckage. The fire was caused by the ignition of vegetable oil that leaked from one of the train cars, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

The trains together comprised six locomotives and more than 200 cars.
