AutoPort signs lease with Delaware port
AutoPort has signed contract with the Port of Wilmington, Del., that will keep the company as a tenant of the port through 2018.
Trans Cargo LLC and AutoPort Inc. will lease 42 acres from the port. AutoPort Inc. is an automotive conversion, restyling and processing center located adjacent to the Port of Wilmington. Trans Cargo is the terminal operating arm of AutoPort and together they prepare more than 100,000 automobiles, trucks and oversized rolling stock units annually for export to Middle Eastern, African and Mediterranean markets through Wilmington.
John Owen, chairman of AutoPort North America, said the company looked “forward to working together to grow our core export and import processing business and our diversification into leading edge green energy technological initiatives such AutoPort's work on converting the Scion xB platform from gasoline to an all-electric vehicle.”
Delaware Gov. Jack Markell called AutoPort “an outstanding Delaware company” and the port cited a recent economic impact analysis by Martin & Assoc., which said AutoPort's related cargo creates 675 jobs, $36 million in business revenue and $2.6 million in local and regional taxes.
AutoPort signs lease with Delaware port
