Baltimore reports record general volume The Port of Baltimore said it handled a record 8.7 million tons of general cargo at its public marine terminals in 2007, up from 8.6 million tons in 2006.
   It said it was the sixth straight year of increases in general cargo, which includes containerized cargo, autos, steel, paper, wood, and other forest products, as well as farm and construction equipment.
   Total foreign cargo moving through the port, including bulk products, was 30.8 million tons in 2007 compared to 30.6 million tons in 2006. It was the was the fourth straight year the volumes exceeded 30 million tons. Exports were 11.3 million tons, the highest export level since 1996
   Cargo moving through the port in 2007 had a value of $41.9 billion, compared to $36.7 billion in 2006.
