BANDA ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF GHANA SHIPOWNERS AND AGENTS ASSOCIATION

Alhaji Asoma Banda, executive chairman of OT Africa Line, has been elected chairman of the Shipowners and Agents Association of Ghana.

Banda said he will seek to encourage wider consultation and cooperation with the shipowners and agents and the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority, Ghana Shippers Council, Transport Ministry and Customs Authority. GPHA owns and operates two commercial ports, Tema and Takoradi, which have an annual capacity of 15 million tons and account for more than 90 percent of Ghana's import and export trade.

Issues Banda expects to address include dredging at Tema, developing and increasing off-port cargo facilities, helping the hub concept take deeper root in West Africa, and the removal of sub-regional market protectionism and customs barriers.
