BAX GLOBAL EXPANDS IN PUERTO RICO

BAX GLOBAL EXPANDS IN PUERTO RICO    'BAX Global, the integrated air freight subsidiary of The Pittston Co., has added an office in Puerto Rico to handle inbound shipments and has partnered with local trucker CaribEx to provide pick-up and delivery coverage of the entire island.
   BAX opened a second office in Aguadilla and moved into large facilities in San Juan near Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. The partnership with CaribEx will allow BAX to move export shipments out of Puerto Rico the same day they are picked up at origin.
   A booming pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and garment business has produced more air freight trade between Puerto Rico and the United States in recent years. The market is becoming increasingly competitive, as U.S. forwarders, FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service have expanded to gain share.
