BAX Global opens Chicago logistics campus

BAX Global opens Chicago logistics campus Irvine, Calif.-based BAX Global, part of DB Logistics, the transportation and logistics division of Germany’s state-owned Deutsche Bahn AG, has opened a 14-acre logistics facility in Chicago.
   The BAX Global-Chicago World Freight Campus is situated near O'Hare International Airport with facilities totaling 228,003 square feet. The site has 84 truck bays, and features a 100-foot clear span for domestic cross-dock activities.
   Other automated enhancements include an advanced conveyor sort system, dock lock equipment, pneumatic tube systems, time management systems and installation of radio frequency infrastructure. The campus also has training facilities for employees and includes 70 trailer storage spaces to accommodate future air and ocean growth.
   'BAX moved to the new campus on the north side of the airport in advance of O’Hare’s planned renovation and runway moves,' said Jim Schutzenhofer, BAX Global's vice president, U.S. central division. 'And most important, when the airport gets bogged down with construction, BAX will be able to serve our customers with no construction disruptions.'
   Deutsche Bahn, which also owns Schenker, purchased BAX Global for $1.1 billion from U.S. security firm The Brink's Co. in early 2006.
