Behrendt joined VTG, a subsidiary of the Preussag group, in 1987. He has been chairman of the executive board of VTG-Lehnkering AG and a member of the Hapag-Lloyd executive board since 1999.
Behrendt will succeed Bernd Wrede, chairman of Hapag-Lloyd since 1993, whose unexpected departure was announced recently by Preussag, the parent company of Hapag-Lloyd.
