Belk moving cargo through Charleston
The Belk department store chain will move 1,000 containers per year through the Port of Charleston, the South Carolina State Ports Authority said Tuesday.
The port said that beginning this week, Performance Team, a supply chain logistics and delivery company, will transload import containers of apparel, accessories, housewares and footwear bound for Belk's distribution centers in Blythewood, S.C., and Jackson, Miss. Belk operates more than 300 stores across the Southeast.
Performance Team is based in Goose Creek, north of Charleston. It operates out of a 200,000-square-foot space and employs 75. It has done domestic consolidation work for Belk for more than a decade.
