Bernuth plans bunker charge increase

Bernuth Lines said it would increase its bunker fuel surcharge for its Caribbean Islands services, effective July 1.

   The new surcharge will be:

   * $144 for 20-foot containers, up from $120.

   * $272 for 40-foot containers, up from $224.

   * $309 for equipment more than 40 feet.

   * Less-than-containerload cargo will be 16 cents per measure unit and 32 cents per weight unit.

   The surcharge applies to shipments between the United States and Anguilla, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Montserrat, Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.

   The increase basically returns the bunker surcharge to the levels from last year. The Miami-based carrier had decreased the surcharge in December after world fuel prices decreased last year.
