   Paul Bingham has joined Wilbur Smith Associates as economics practice leader, expanding the company’s investment in providing economics consulting services for transportation.

   Formerly managing director, global commerce and transportation at IHS Global Insight, Bingham was responsible for providing transportation market forecasts, economic impact studies and cost-benefit analysis of transportation infrastructure for clients worldwide. He managed transportation research studies for federal, state and local government agencies, as well as government agency studies in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.

   He also managed the team producing the monthly Port Tracker newsletter on behalf of the strategic supply chain council of the National Retail Federation from 2005-2009.

   Bingham has more than 27 years experience managing economic analyses of transportation in North America and overseas.

   In his new role with Wilbur Smith, he will focus on providing management consulting services to clients needing economic and financial analyses of transportation, transportation market analysis, transportation policy and business development. The company noted Bingham's economic analysis experience is particularly strong with regards to freight, but said he is supported by a team of economists experienced analyzing all aspects of infrastructure including passenger travel across all the modes of transportation.

   Wilbur Smith Associates is an employee-owned, transportation and infrastructure consulting firm headquartered in Columbia, S.C. The firm bears the name of its founder who was South Carolina’s first state traffic engineer and created it with his brother James in 1952.
