BIS offers SNAP-R self-management

BIS offers SNAP-R self-management

The U.S. Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security on Feb. 9 will implement a new Simplified Network Application Processing online account registration and self-management system.

This new system replaces the current e-mail or fax submission process used to obtain a Company Identification Number (CIN). Companies not registered with BIS will have an additional 60 days before they are required to register electronically, the agency said.

BIS said the benefits of the changes include:

' Speed of online registration — a few minutes versus the seven to 14 days required for paper submissions.

' Ease at which the online registration module enables new companies to obtain a CIN while at the same time designate an account administrator.

' Existing users can easily claim account administrator rights for their company.

' Liberty and speed by which companies may update their business and user information through use of the self-management module.
