Blue Skies picks TempTRIP for fruit shipments

   Blue Skies has chosen a time and temperature management system from TempTRIP to preserve its fresh fruit shipments from Africa to the United Kingdom in as little as 48 hours.
   Blue Skies, also based in the United Kingdom, has more than 2,000 employees in Ghana, Egypt, South Africa and Brazil and sources and supplies fruit from fields, delivering them to supermarkets in the United Kingdom, Europe and South Africa. The company said it uses air transport to deliver products, so it requires refrigerated trucks to get those deliveries to and from the airport.
   Blue Skies food technologist Joe Revell said once the fruit arrives at the airport, all handling is out of the hands of Blue Skies, making temperature monitoring a major concern.
   TempTRIP, which Blue Skies has deployed first in its Africa-U.K. freight business, uses radio-frequency identification cards and readers, and the Web to set up a profile of what’s being shipped, monitor it and record temperatures every 15 minutes.
