BNSF reduces rates for smaller wheat shipments

Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co. has reduced rates for single-car and 26-car shipments of wheat by simplifying its rate structure.

Starting Dec. 1, the rate spread between single-car and 26-car shipments as well as 26-car and 52-car shipments will be $75 per car in all markets.

“In an effort to accommodate our customers who ship in smaller quantities, we have simplified our wheat rate spread,” said Kevin Kaufman, BNSF’s group vice president of agricultural products.

Examples of reduction for wheat shippers include a $98 per car reduction on wheat moving in single cars from North Dakota to Minneapolis; a $139 per car reduction on wheat moving in 26-car units from North Dakota and Montana to the Pacific Northwest; and a $227 per car reduction on wheat moving in single cars from North Dakota and Montana to the Pacific Northwest.
