Boeing starts testing program for converted 747 freighters

Boeing and launch customer Cathay Pacific Airways have completed the maiden test flight for the first Boeing 747-400 passenger airplane to be converted to a freighter.

The prototype airplane arrived in Hong Kong Oct. 5 after flying from Xiamen in mainland China, where the modification was performed and certification ground testing was started. The flight test and certification will be completed in Hong Kong over the next few months, Boeing said.

This is the first time Boeing has conducted a major flight test program outside the United States.
