The 52nd quadrennial convention, at which President John Bowers, 84, may announce his retirement, will close with general elections on Thursday.
It’s widely expected that Bowers will be succeeded by Richard P. Hughes Jr., ILA’s executive vice president.
The general convention follows the convention of the ILA’s Atlantic Coast District (ACD) last week, also held in Hollywood.
Stephen Knott, president of ILA Local 1 in Newark, was elected president; and Dennis Daggett, ILA safety director from Local 1804-1, (the general maintenance local for New York and New Jersey) was elected Secretary-Treasurer. Those positions had been held by Bowers and Hughes, respectively.
Reelected as ACD vice presidents were Edward L. Brown Sr., James K. Keleher, Vincent Cuozzo, Sam DuPress, William E. Yockey, Robert Gladden Jr., Michael J. Vigneron, Joseph Pollio, K. Owen Boyle, John Shade, Bernard O’Donnell, Patrick Murphy, Glen P. Banks and James Stolpinski.
Samuel Paone, John Healy and John Baker Jr. were elected to their first full terms as ACD vice presidents after being appointed to complete unexpired terms earlier this year. Angel Felipe Garcia of Carolina, Puerto Rico, is the sole newly elected ACD vice president.
