The port said its Fairview Terminal handled 181,890 TEUs in 2008 compared to 16,703 the prior year. The terminal opened in late October 2007 and volumes jumped in the second half of 2008 as a second CKYH Alliance service began calling the port in July. In the fourth quarter, the terminal operated at greater than 60 percent of its 500,000-TEU capacity.
The increase in containers was enough to offset declines in grain, coal, coke, log, chemical and liquid propane gas volumes.
