Brasil Terminal Portuário reports 167% increase in container volumes

Brazil’s newest container terminal, Brasil Terminal Portuário, handled its one millionth container since operations officially began in November 2013.    Brasil Terminal Portuário, a joint venture between APM Terminals and Terminal Investment Ltd., located on the right bank of the Port of Santos, handled 363,921 TEUs in the first half of 2015, a 167 percent increase from the same period last year. The strong increase can be attributed to the dredging of the navigation channel to better accommodate larger ships, APM Terminals said in a statement.
   In addition, Brasil Terminal  Portuário handled its one millionth container July 24 since it officially began operations in November 2013. The terminal welcomed its first commercial vessel in August 2013 but did not officially open until November, when the planned berthing access and basin dredging were completed.
   Brasil Terminal Portuário also achieved its highest monthly average productivity per crane in May with 34.11 moves per hour. The terminal also reduced its truck cycle time to 40 minutes from pre-gate to gate out.
   Brasil Terminal Portuário occupies 121 acres of space and offers 15 meters of depth and 1,100 meters of quay. It is equipped with eight ship to shore cranes, 26 RTGs, 40 terminal trucks and a 16 lane semi-automated gate. In addition, Brasil Terminal Portuário has ability to accommodate up to three vessels of 9,200 TEUs simultaneously.
