Brazil ag shipper orders locomotives
Cosan, a major Brazil-based grower and processor of sugar cane and ethanol, has ordered 50 new diesel-electric locomotives to haul sugar from its processing plants to port and rail terminals, manufacturer GE Transportation said.
The GE locomotives are heavy-duty versions that are able to avoid slippage on start-ups, inclines and suboptimal track conditions.
Deliveries to Cosan's logistics subsidiary Rumo will begin this year. The locomotives will be built at GE's plant in Brazil, with engines manufactured in Pennsylvania.
