Brazil dismisses airport authority chief

Brazil dismisses airport authority chief Brazil on Monday replaced the head of its airport authority in response to two major aviation disasters there, including a crash at the Sao Paulo airport in July in which 199 people died.
   Brazilian Defense Minister Nelson Jobin installed the head of Brazil's space agency, Sergio Mauricio Brito Faudenzi, as the new head of the airport authority. He replaced Jose Carlos Pereia as airports chief.
   Jobim was installed as defense minister two weeks ago in response to the July 17 crash of a TAM Airlines jetliner at the airport. The plane started to land at the airport, which has been criticized for its short main runway, and then tried to take off again before crashing into a gas station and the TAM Express building. That building was demolished Sunday. The site of the building will be converted into a memorial for the crash victims.
