Bridgestone Firestone breaks ground for Jacksonville DC

Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire on Tuesday held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new distribution center at Jacksonville's Cecil Commerce Center, taking the first step in what the company describes as the modernization of its distribution center system.

   Once completed, the 1 million-square-foot warehouse will be the largest Bridgestone Firestone distribution center in the country, employing 250 people.

   'We view our arrival into Jacksonville as not just a simple groundbreaking, but as a new alliance with Florida and also with the people of this community,' said Nelson Miller, BFNT vice president of logistics. 'Our primary motivation for selecting Jacksonville is its strategic location near the Port of Jacksonville, which is expanding and will give us the ability to provide overnight delivery service to more than 96 percent of our customers.'
