Broward Alliance boosts economy during first half The Broward Alliance, a public-private entity created to help businesses and create jobs in Broward County, said in its mid-year report that it assisted a total of 151 local companies during the first half of its fiscal year.
   “Broward's prosperity is driven by high skills, high-wage job creation and new capital investment,” said James Tarlton, Broward Alliance president and chief executive officer. “The Broward Alliance's business development team works to grow and retain existing businesses; leads and facilitates initiatives that establish Broward County-South Florida as a leading gateway to global markets; and crafts compelling business cases for companies to make their capital investments in Broward County.” He made the remarks at a March 30 luncheon in Fort Lauderdale attended by some 200 business and government leaders.
   Tarlton noted that several major companies have relocated or expanded operations in Broward County, ranging from major cruise carriers to financial services companies. He also said more than $10 million was generated by the film commission, which assisted with 193 film permits and helped with 34 major productions during the period.
