BRUNSWICK RO/RO ROLLS TO RECORD

BRUNSWICK RO/RO ROLLS TO RECORD

The Georgia Ports Authority's Brunswick roll-on/roll-off terminal handled a record 251,230 automobile and machinery units in fiscal year 2002, ending June 30.

The volume at the port of Brunswick's Colonel's Island Ro/Ro Terminal was 15 percent better than the 218,586 units handled in fiscal 2001.

'The recent announcement by Volvo Cars of North America LLC and Porsche Cars North America Inc. will generate approximately 44,000 new units, and combined with existing business, should take our totals to more than 280,000 units in fiscal year 2003,' said Doug J. Marchand, executive director of the port authority.

The port authority completed a new ro/ro berth at the Colonel's Island Terminal in October 2001 to keep up with the growing volumes through the southern Georgia port.
