Bulk discharge facility to be built at port of Cristobal, Panama

Bulk discharge facility to be built at port of Cristobal, Panama Minneapolis-based Cargill Americas Inc., a food, agriculture and risk management products and services provider, has signed a joint venture agreement with three Panamanian agriculture companies to build and operate a bulk discharge port facility at the port of Cristobal, Panama.
   The three Panama-based companies are food producer Grupo Melo; Panavicola, a holding company for the Toledano group of poultry companies; and ARCE Avicola, producers of chickens, eggs and hogs.
   The new joint venture company will be known as Desarrollo Posicional with development of the facility due to start within two months.
   The port of Cristobal is located on the Atlantic coast of Panama.
   The facility will be built on a deepwater site at the port, with the land being leased under an agreement with the Panama Ports Co., holding company of Hutchinson Whampoa.
   The port will initially be used for agricultural raw materials, with plans to expand the port's use
to include other bulk and bagged products, the companies said in a joint statement.
