Busan to see first 10,000-TEU calls

MSC and CMA CGM vessels of more than 10,000 TEU capacity are due to call on the Port of Busan Tuesday and Wednesday, the first such ships to call at Korea's biggest port.

The 11,700-TEU MSC Francesca will call at Busan's Gamman Terminal, one of nine such vessels deployed on a service linking Busan, Qingdao and Hong Kong with the Mediterranean.

On Wednesday, CMA CGM's Vela and Thalassa – both 10,960 TEU container vessels – will call at the Jasungdae Terminal, part of a seven-vessel string connecting Busan and other Asian ports with Northern Europe.

The largest vessel to previously call at Busan was China Shipping's 9,600-TEU Xin Los Angeles.
