C.H. Robinson’s 2nd-quarter profit up 10%

C.H. Robinson’s 2nd-quarter profit up 10% C.H. Robinson Tuesday reported a 9.9 percent increase in second quarter net income to $90.4 million, compared to $82.3 million a year ago.
   The Minneapolis-based trucking and multimodal logistics provider’s operating income in the three months ended June 30 improved 11.3 percent to $144.5 million, up from $129.8 million in the second quarter of 2007. Total gross revenue for the period rose 23.5 percent to $2.32 billion, compared to $1.88 billion.
   “While the environment is still challenging and our truckload gross profit margins continue to be compressed in the first part of July, we continue to feel very positive about our long-term growth strategy and our business model,” said John P. Wiehoff, chairman and chief executive officer of C.H. Robinson.
   After six months, C.H. Robinson's net income was up 13.8 percent to $176.7 million with operating income 14.5 percent higher at $280.6 million. First half revenue was up 23.1 percent to $4.31 billion.
