Callao terminal signed over to APM Terminals
APM Terminals assumed administration and management of Terminal Muelle Norte (North Terminal) at the Port of Callao, Peru, on July 1.
With the management change, APM Terminals will reduce tariff charges by 15 percent to 18 percent per terms of the concession.
APM Terminal won the bid to operate the terminal in May, and under a concession contract finalized May 12 will invest $749 million to update and expand the facility for containerized, breakbulk and roll-on/roll-off cargo as well as cruise ships.
Planned improvements include the purchase and installation of 12 new post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes, 36 new rubber-tire gantry cranes and a new grain silo.
