Canada official fears “bomb in a box”

Canada’s Defense Minister Peter MacKay told a transportation security conference in Ottawa this week that the greatest threat facing North America is terrorists smuggling a nuclear weapon onto the continent in a shipping container.
   “The greatest threat to North America right now is on the water. This is an area where, God forbid, if someone with ill intent decided to send a dirty bomb or some kind of a nuclear device into our country, this is an area where we are vulnerable,” said MacKay in remarks quoted by the Vancouver Sun. “With the number of movements of containers coming into this country today, this is an area we have to be completely and extremely vigilant and rigorous in terms of security.”
   The Sun noted that the Deltaport in British Columbia is in the midst of a 90-day trial of radiation portals, designed to scan every container to prevent the entry of nuclear weapons or dirty bombs.
