Cargo boosts Northwest revenue results

   Northwest Airlines reported cargo revenue was up 8.9 percent in the third quarter ended Sept. 30 to $196 million from $180 million last year. For the first three quarters of the year, cargo revenue is up 7.9 percent to $544 million.

   The world's fourth-largest airline saw cargo revenue per ton mile rise 5 percent to 34.04 cents vs. 32.43 cents in the year ago period.

      Cargo revenue helped offset a 1.1 percent decline in passenger revenue, keeping total revenue flat at $2.56 billion. The St. Paul, Minn.-based airline made a $42 million profit in the quarter compared to a $46 million loss in 2002.
