Cargo plane crashes in Shanghai

   Three American crewmembers were killed in the crash of an MD-11 cargo plane at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport on Saturday, Chinese state-run media and international news agencies reported.

   The plane, which swerved off the runway into a storage building and burst into flames after its tail struck the ground on take off, was operated by Zimbabwe-based Avient Aviation, according to the Associated Press. It was headed to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgystan. Four other crewmembers with different nationalities were injured in the accident.

   Chinese Central Television said two runways were temporarily closed and more than 30 outbound flights were delayed.

   Officials have not yet determined a cause of the accident.
