The carrier replaced its Saturday flight from Milan (Malpensa) to New York and Toronto with a flight from Milan to Chicago, and added on Sunday a flight from Milan to New York. Cargoitalia's Wednesday flight to New York and Chicago remains unchanged.
“The increase in U.S. services is in direct response to demand,” said Roberto Gilardoni, commercial director for Cargoitalia, in a statement.
“The market was understandably cautious about our operation following the termination of Italian freighter operations in 2008. But we have proven that we are a totally new airline, we have demonstrated our reliability and commitment, and the market has responded with strong support. We are now the only carrier providing direct maindeck capacity from New York to Milan.”
Flights to Hong Kong will increase to three times weekly with the addition of a Tuesday flight from Milan to Hong Kong via Sharjah. Cargoitalia's Thursday and Saturday flights from Milan to Hong Kong via Dubai are unchanged. All inbound flights will maintain their technical stop in Almaty.
Gilardoni said the extra flight via Sharjah ties in with Cargoitalia’s U.S./Italy services, providing the U.S. market with “efficient transfers to Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Cargoitalia will take delivery of its third MD-11 freighter in June 2010, with further fleet expansion already planned through 2014.
