Cargolux adds another 747

All-cargo carrier Cargolux ordered its 14th 747-400 freighter from Boeing on the same day it took delivery of its 13th 747-400F.

The Luxembourg-based carrier operates one of the youngest freighter fleets in the world — average age 5.7 years — because it orders new freighters off the production line rather than converting 20-year-old passenger planes.

Boeing is scheduled to deliver the next plane in October 2005. the 747-400 is specially adapted to haul cargo because the plane’s nose cone flips open to handle large loads.
