Cargolux opts for Boeing freighters

Luxembourg-based all-cargo airline Cargolux has decided to enter into negotiations with Boeing for the purchase of at least 10 Boeing B747 Advanced Freighters for delivery beginning 2009.

“Management's recommendation to the board is the result of a very thorough analysis during which we assessed which aircraft was best suited to our fleet renewal in the next decade,” said Uli Ogiermann, Cargolux’s president and chief executive officer said.

“The fact that we enter into negotiations with the Boeing company is based purely on commercial considerations, supported by the environmental benefits the B747-ADV F offers,” Ogiermann added.

In a separate development Boeing said Wednesday that Spanish airline Air Europa has finalized an agreement for the acquisition of 18 737-800s aircraft valued at $1.2 billion at list prices.

Deliveries of the planes to Air Europa will begin in 2007, with three new airplanes to be delivered annually.
