Cargolux orders three more Boeing 747-8 freighters

Cargolux has ordered three more Boeing B747-8 freighters, valued at $845 million at list prices, and added two options.

The Luxembourg-based all-cargo airline and Japan’s Nippon Cargo Airlines were the aircraft’s launch customers in November 2005. Cargolux’s total 747-8 Freighter order now stands at 13 airplanes, two options and 10 purchase rights. In total, the 747-8 program now has 87 orders for both the freighter and passenger versions combined.

The 747-8F will have a total payload capacity of 140 metric tons, providing 16 percent more cargo revenue volume than the 747-400F. The 747-8F will also have a slightly greater flying range of 8,275 kilometers (4,475 nautical miles).

Cargolux will take delivery of the first of the widebody aircraft in the second half of 2009.
