Cargolux has operated the first Boeing 747-8 freighter flight into Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
The all-cargo airline expects the weekly freighter flight to benefit Vietnam’s growing fashion industry. With this new flight, all of the carrier’s destinations in Asia-Pacific are certified for the 747-8 freighter. Cargloux began flying 787-8s into Hanoi in March, recently upping its flight schedule to the city to three times a week.
“A lot of production is moving to Vietnam, and the country shows great determination in boosting its trade by approving its airports for 747-8 operations,” the carrier’s interim president and chief executive officer, Richard Forson, said in a statement. “We are happy to now be able to offer advanced 747-8 freighter services to all Cargolux destinations in Vietnam, a market that is of significant commercial importance to us.” – Jon Ross
