Cargolux, unions agree on CWA

   Cargloux Airlines has signed an agreement with its two unions, extending its Collective Work Agreement through December 2014.
   In the new deal, employees have agreed to optimize their time on the job with the carrier’s activity levels, according to the carrier. The parties will establish joint working groups to look for other efficiencies.
   Entering the negotiations, Cargolux had a goal of $37 million in personnel-related savings for 2013 and 2014, but it reduced the goal to $12.5 million, which would be realized in 2014. Unions had then demanded partial or full repayment of the $12.5 million if Cargolux realized a profit in 2014.
   “All parties appreciate the spirit of cooperation and goodwill surrounding the negotiations, which resulted in the reinstatement of the CWA,” according to a Cargolux statement. “Both Cargolux and the unions believe that the extension agreement contributes towards securing the long-term financial sustainability of the airline through productivity and efficiency improvements.” – Jon Ross
