Caribbean Airlines newest name on MIA carrier list

Caribbean Airlines newest name on MIA carrier list Caribbean Airlines, which officially commenced operations on January 1, is the newest air carrier among the 92 scheduled and chartered carriers serving Miami International Airport.
   Caribbean Airlines is the national airline of Trinidad and Tobago and operates on routes formerly handled by BWIA West Indies Airways. The new airline has U.S. routes to Miami and New York, as well as several intra-Caribbean routes. It handles both passengers and cargo.
   The Miami-Dade Aviation Department said five carriers formerly on the list are no longer serving MIA. Those include Champion Air, North American, Planet Airways, World Airways, Cargolux Airlines and the seasonal carrier Monarch Airlines.
   The airlines serving MIA include 73 scheduled carriers and 19 charter carriers. That includes 14 scheduled U.S.-based all-cargo carriers and nine foreign scheduled all-cargo carriers, plus 11 U.S. all-cargo charter carriers and one foreign all-cargo charter carrier.
