Caribbean Court of Justice receives funding

Caribbean Court of Justice receives funding The Caribbean Community (Caricom) has received a grant of 1.3 million euros ($1.77 million) from the European Commission to help fund the operations of the Caribbean Court of Justice, a legal entity created to handle legal disputes within the Caribbean Single Market and Economy system.
The money will be provided from August 2007 to December 2012, according to an agreement between Caricom and the EC. The money is specifically targeted for a law library, court information and communications technology, and to promote public awareness of the CCJ.
The EC will also provide support in setting up the new court.
Justice Michael de la Bastide, CCJ president, said, 'The European Court of Justice is much more matured than the CCJ and we can learn a lot from them and their experience.'
