Caribbean watches Tropical Storm Dean

Authorities throughout the Caribbean are keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Dean, which is expected to make landfall near the Virgin Islands on Sunday, according to reports from the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

   An advisory said the storm is expected to be southeast of Puerto Rico by late Sunday morning, with sustained winds of 110 miles per hour.

   U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Juan had scheduled a briefing in its San Juan office at 2 p.m. today, and officials from throughout the Caribbean and Florida are monitoring the storm, which is expected to gain strength through the day.

   Hurricane Center forecasters have not yet made a prediction of how or where the storm could hit North America.
