Ken Weinberg, CLI co-founder and vice president, said customers have realized a savings of 30 percent with this system. “They‘ve also quantified extensive savings in administrative costs, so DMS pays for itself in months, not years,” he said.
According to Weinberg, the enhanced DMS is big step forward from the company’s previous version and it represents the company’s line of thinking around future innovations.
The new DMS offers real-time manifesting while helping move shipments, can show shipment location and scan freight at every stage in the move, and allows for full communication on handheld devices, cutting out paperwork.
The system also allows for multiple dockworkers to load or unload a single trailer, keeping track of where all shipments are and who handled them when, and it can be geared to give these individual workers specific tasks and roles for each shipment.
DMS can be integrated with existing scale and measurement devices to automatically adjust and correct freight bills, as well as show old and new weights and measurements side-by-side for verification. This scanning can also be done during the initial unloading at a terminal, creating a skeleton probill and unit record that outbound shipments are checked against.
CLI’s DMS is available as either a free-standing system for carriers that do not use its Facts freight management system, or as one of a series of enhancements to the Facts system. – Geoff Whiting
