Carriers adding larger ships, ports to Asia/South Africa loop    “K” Line, MISC Berhad and Pacific International Lines will from late April phase in larger vessels to their joint weekly Asia South Africa Service, as well as extending the port coverage to destinations in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka
   The upgraded service will operate with seven ships of 3,300 TEUs to 3,800 TEUs, instead of five now ranging from 1,182 TEUs to 1,743 TEUs. “K” Line and MISC will each operate three of the new ships and one will come from PIL. All of the larger ships are expected to be in place by about June.
   The revised port rotation of the service will be Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Shekou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Kelang, Colombo, Durban, Cape Town, Colombo, Port Kelang, Singapore, Hong Kong and back to Shanghai.
   “By extending the current service to the North Asia region, customers will benefit from the wider market coverage and fast transit time,” “K” Line said in a statement. “Having a Colombo call on both eastbound and westbound legs gives it the unique distinction of being the only service of its kind which is intended to connect the high growth markets in the Indian subcontinent as well as those of the Middle East.”
