CARRIERS CHOOSE CHARLESTON ON US/MED/INDIAN SUBCONTINENT SERVICE

CMA CGM, Contship Containerlines and the Shipping Corp. of India have settled on Charleston as the third U.S. port for the U.S./Mediterranean/Indian Subcontinent “Indamex” service.

The service commenced in March and the choice of the final U.S. port was between Charleston and Savannah. The “Indamex” service has a rotation of New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Gioia Tauro, Port Said, Jeddah, Colombo, Mumbai, New York, Norfolk and Charleston.

Initially, the service had a fortnightly sailing frequency, but will be changing to weekly as of mid-June in Asia and mid-July in the U.S., due to new vessels being phased into the loop.

According to ComPairData (www.compairdata.com), the global shipping database on the Internet, the service is one of only three direct services between Mumbai and the U.S. East Coast.
