CARRIERS RAISE NORTH EUROPE/EASTERN MED RATES

   Shipping lines of the Europe/Mediterranean Trade Agreement have notified shippers that they plan to increase freight rates between north Europe and the eastern Mediterranean on March 1.

   The carriers said that they intend to implement a rate restoration program in the southbound and northbound trades for Levant, Greece and Turkey.

   Rates to and from the U.K., northwest Continent, Scandinavia and the Baltic to and from Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Greece and Turkey will be increased by 100 euro or '60 (about $96) per TEU in the southbound direction, and 75 euro or '50 (about $80) per TEU northbound.

   The carriers of the Europe/Mediterranean Trade Agreement are Armada, CMA CGM, Contazline, Ellerman, Hamburg Sud, Iscont Lines, “K” Line, Maersk Sealand, Mediterranean Shipping Co., Navigation Maritime Bulgare (Bulcon), P&O Nedlloyd, Safmarine, Senator Lines, Turkon Lines and Zim Israel Navigation.
