Carriers set new charges for St. Maarten

New costs are coming for shipments in the U.S./St. Maarten trade, with both Tropical Shipping and Sea Star Line announcing new landing charges, and Sea Star planning a rate hike on southbound and northbound cargo.

   The carriers put out separate announcements Friday that landing charges for southbound cargo would increase effective Sept. 30.

   Tropical will increase its St. Maarten landing charges to $555 per TEU and $1,040 per FEU.

   Sea Star, meanwhile, said its landing charge on cargo from the U.S. and St. Maarten would increase by $40 on 20-foot dry equipment, $80 on 40-foot dry equipment, $90 on 45-foot dry equipment, $100 on 48-foot dry equipment, $80 on 40-foot refrigerated equipment, and $90 on 45-foot refrigerated equipment.

   Sea Star said it will increase freight rates between the U.S./Puerto Rico and St. Maarten, also effective Sept. 30, by $100 for 20-foot dry equipment, $200 for 40-foot dry equipment, $240 for 45-foot and 48-foot dry equipment, $200 for 40-foot refrigerated equipment, and $240 for 45-foot refrigerated equipment.
