Carriers team up for new U.S./Indian subcontinent service    United Arab Shipping Co. (UASC) will at the end of November team up with CKYH Alliance members “K” Line, Hanjin Shipping and Yang Ming to start a weekly service connecting the U.S. East Coast with ports in the Mediterranean, the Indian subcontinent and South East Asia.
   Each carrier will contribute two ships of 3,500 to 4,000 TEUs on the SINA service, which will call New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Port Said, Jeddah, Singapore, Colombo, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Port Said, and back to New York.
   Transit time from the Indian port of Nhava Sheva to New York will be 18 days, on a par with the current fastest service according to ComPair Data, the global liner-shipping database, at https://www.compairdata.com.
   The new service marks the entry into the trade for “K” Line and Yang Ming. UASC has for a long time operated its own Mediterranean-India Service (MIX), on which Hanjin takes slots.
   Carriers are looking to get a foothold in two of the world’s fastest growing export markets, South East Asia and India. In May, Dubai-based startup carrier Zim Integrated Shipping Services, Emirates Shipping Line, the Shipping Corp. of India, and CMA CGM subsidiary MacAndrews, started the weekly Indus Express (IDX) service linking the U.S./Mediterranean and Indian subcontinent.
