Carriers upgrade North America West Coast/Oceania services

Carriers upgrade North America West Coast/Oceania services Hamburg S'd, Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk Line will from mid-July phase in larger ships on one of their joint services linking the West Coast of North America with Australasia and add a call at Adelaide on another loop.
   The weekly Pacific Southwest String (PSW) will replace smaller tonnage and bring in vessels of 2,500 TEUs “in order to better handle expanding customer volumes on the trade,” said Denmark’s Maersk. The PSW rotation is Oakland, Calif.; Long Beach, Calif.; Auckland, New Zealand; Melbourne, Australia; Sydney, Australia; Tauranga, New Zealand; Suva, Fiji; Honolulu; and back to Oakland.
   The fortnightly Pacific Northwest String (PNW) is adding Adelaide, a major export center for Australia’s wine industry. The PNW calls Oakland; Seattle; Vancouver, British Columbia; Long Beach; Tauranga; Sydney; Melbourne; Adelaide; Auckland; Papeete, Tahiti; Ensenada, Mexico; and Oakland again.
