Casio expands South America logistics

   To boost its South American sales, Casio Computers set up Casio Latin America in Montevideo, Uruguay, as a logistics management company, and has recently started operating its regional distribution center in the country.
   Before the change, which started in August, Casio shipped most of its products from China directly to each of its Central and South American country markets. With a centralized logistics operation in South America, the company said deliveries in the region can now be made well within the month of placing an order.
   Casio Latin America has also created a logistics system to ship products as soon as they are ordered by sales vendors throughout South America. The
company said the system allows for combined shipments from China to increase efficiency and also made it possible for the company to develop a trucking network to transport goods to countries which are part of Mercosur. Montevideo provides a free trade zone in Uruguay.
   The company said that “products can be sent to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 24 hours, and to Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Asuncion, Paraguay, and to Santiago, Chile in periods of 72 to 96 hours.”
   Casio said it’s now looking to form partnerships with existing logistics companies in both Central and South America. — Geoff Whiting
