The U.S.-flag container carrier, which offers services between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii and Guam, as well as an eastbound service from China, said it had a profit of $9.1 million in the first quarter, ending March 31.
“As the container shipping industry is a zero-sum game, carriers are de facto forced to match each others’ rate declines in order to maintain their vessel utilization,” said Lars Jensen, SeaIntel’s chief executive officer.
